The civic reception organized by the Concerned Elders Forum of Southern Ijaw Local Government in honour of the Executive Chairman of the area – Chief Remember Ogbe – has held at the council headquarters in Oporoma. Speaking, a one-time federal legislator and gubernatorial candidate in the old Rivers State – Dr. Eddy Ogoun – catalogued projects and programmes of the Chief Ogbe-led administration ranging from the construction of ultra-modern market, construction of police station and police staff quarters intended to beefing up the security apparatus of the area, staff welfare and human capacity building within six months. Describing the election of Chief Ogbe as a timely act of God, Dr. Ogoun stressed that the prudent management of resources has put the local government on the path of development. He urged indigenes of Southern Ijaw Local Government to rally round the administration of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, Governor Henry Seriake Dickson and that of Chief Ogbe in order to sustain the wind of revolution.
Responding, Chief Ogbe described his political antecedents which dates back to 1988/89 when he served as Supervisory Councilor for Works and Health respectively in the old Rivers State as being characterized by service. Describing the reception as unique in the history of Southern Ijaw Local Government, he called on well-meaning sons and daughters of the area to contribute their quota to the development of the area while pledging to do more in the coming years.
Highpoints of the event included the September edition of the monthly transparency briefing, an Outstanding Performance Grassroots award conferred on Chief Ogbe by the Bayelsa State Chapter of the Niger Delta Newspapers Publishers Association, and cultural display by the Egbelegbele Dance Group of Oporoma.
